The Water Clock
Book 1

First published 2003

Introducing local newspaper reporter Philip Dryden in the first of the Fenland mysteries which eventually won a ‘Dagger’ – the crime novel equivalent of an ‘Oscar’. The story begins with the finding of a body on the roof of Ely Cathedral. Dryden, chief reporter for The Crow, knows he has a great story when forensic evidence links the victim to the mutilated body of a man found in the boot of a car winched from the frozen river Ouse. His investigations uncover some disturbing truths, and lead to a foggy night in the Fens two years earlier which changed Dryden’s life forever. The story ends amidst a great flood as the icy Fens are unlocked, and the sea threatens to overwhelm the land.
